To begin learning how to strike, the syllabus first covers the fundamentals of how to punch correctly in order to deliver full power (and without hurting oneself in the process).

Having achived a competence in all trajectories of punch, students are introduced to open-handed strikes which make striking with hands far more lethal and versatile than closed-fist punching. Along with these hand formations, students are shown the almost infinite places on an opponent's body that they can use them in a self-defence scenario.

The Hung Leng Kuen syllabus contains several drills and sets, performed either with a partner or alone, that help to build sensitivity & speed and thus reduce reaction time and increase power, especially with the added understanding of internal fa jing (explosive energy).
